Kenya invites tourists from around the world to experience
this beautiful country. There are number of factors to take
into account when considering what time of year to visit Kenya.
The main tourist season is in January and February when the
weather is considered to be the best –hot & dry;
this time of year is measured as the most pleasant period
for the travelers. It’s also when you’ll find
the largest concentrations of Kenya's birdlife flocks to the
Rift Valley lakes in the greatest numbers. Though wild life
can be seen at all times of the year but at this time, the
animals in the wildlife parks tend to gather together more
around the watercourses as other sources dry up , making them
easier to spot. However, the parks can get crowded and rates
for accommodation go up very high.
From June to October is the another season when, huge herds
of wildebeests and Zebra from the Serengeti in Tanzania to
the Masai Mara, and Amboseli . This is the prime viewing time
as the land has dried out, and the animals are obliged to
come to drink at the ever-shrinking water sources. Rates of
most safari companies increase at this time.
The long rains (from March to end of May) and short rains
(from October to November) transform the national parks into
lush carpet of greenery. It’s very scenic, but it does
provide much cover for the wildlife to hide behind. The rains
generally don’t affect your ability to get around and
see things unless you are right out in the sticks. If you
like to avoid crowds, you may prefer these times of year.
Be prepared for afternoon rainstorms, particularly in the
highlands and western parts of the country. Safaris may be
impossible on the lowland parks during either rainy season.
During these months things are much quieter - places tend
to have rooms available and prices drop.
